This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
