Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
