New Particulars Surface Regarding the Finding of the Reiner Couple's Remains
New information has come to light concerning the shocking demises of esteemed director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday.
A Alarm
According to a report referencing a person close to the family, a therapist scheduled for an appointment was the first to notice something was wrong after being unable to gain access the home. This individual then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives close by.
After gaining access to the house, Romy discovered her father's body. Reports state she then left the home distraught, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. A companion who had gone with her contacted 911. Subsequently, paramedics found Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Legal Charges
Law enforcement have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of first-degree murder, as well as the use of a dangerous weapon, reportedly a knife. He is currently being held and is ineligible for bail.
Clarifications
The anonymous source questioned several previously reported details. They said that while Romy Reiner told emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a guesthouse on the estate, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that juncture.
Additionally refuted published claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "apprehensive" about Nick's behavior in the preceding period. The source claimed the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
This correction also extends to accounts of reportedly "erratic" behavior by Nick at a event hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the tragedy. Although the source stated they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they maintained that claims of a "heated argument" between the two were not correct.
Investigation Details
Per law enforcement sources, the coroner had yet to determine at that point whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Some accounts noted the state of their bodies pointed to they had been deceased for a number of hours.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the residence. He was scheduled to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, said his client had a medical issue and would not appear until Wednesday or later.
