Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
